Marela
Zacarias
Marela’s work is currently part
of the 2011 S-Files Biennial at Museo del Barrio in East
Harlem, NY. She made a 30 ft long site-specific sculptural
painting at the lobby of the museum. You can see a short

Marela has
had a number of exhibitions of her artwork, most recently at
Praxis International Art in Chelsea, NY; Praxis Miami, Fla;
Rush Arts Gallery in Chelsea, NY; at Tapesty in East Harlem,
NY (a show curated by No Longer Empty and Museo del Barrio)
and at Rabbitholestudio in Brooklyn, NY
Marela has
painted more than thirty large public murals in the United
States. Mexico and Guatemala. She was an Artist-in-residence
for the academic year ‘09-’10 at the University of
Connecticut, Storrs, where she completed a mural to be part
of the William Benton Museum of Art collection. Other
sponsors of Marela’s murals have included the National
Endowment for the Arts, the Corcoran School of Art, the New
Britain Museum of American Art, Trinity College, American
University, and Wesleyan University.
Marela was
born and raised in Mexico City and currently lives in
Brooklyn, NY. She is an MFA student at Hunter College and
holds a BA from Kenyon College.
